Day 19: The Lost Art of Common Courtesy

This post is something near and dear to my heart.  Especially after my recent dealings with strangers, I've learned that common courtesy must make a major comeback back into our lives!

To borrow a line from one of my favorite movies (Hello Dolly), "If you really wanna be really elegant.....you walk."  In my movie, the line would be, "If you really wanna be really elegant...you honor your commitments."

If you receive an invitation, RSVP.  If you sign up for a certain position, fulfill that role to the best of your ability.  If you say you're going to call someone, call them.  If you say you're going to pray for somebody, pray for them.  If you're invited to dinner, show up on time.  If you're going to be late, call and let someone know.

Elegant people show consideration for others.  Elegant people understand that other people have things to do, places to go and things to plan and they don't leave them waiting.  Elegant people are courteous.

It brightens my if a stranger holds the door for me at a store as I try to maneuver "THE BEAST"  (a.k.a my double stroller) through a narrow door. That's a simple act of common courtesy that helps a young mother. If I pass out invitations and I get an RSVP, even if it's declining the invitation, it helps me to better plan and I respect that person for respecting me.

Now, I'm not wanting to this post to sound like a rant and rave, nor do I think of myself as perfect in this aspect.  However, I think we can all use a gentle reminder to not get so caught up in our own lives that we forget to consider another persons' needs.

Please remember to honor your commitments, be a person of your word, put others first, and you will truly be an elegant person.

Now on to the fun part!!!!!!  My Friday giveaway- sorry it's late, I've been packing and the day got away from me.  Because I've posted so late in the day, this contest will run through Saturday.

My giveaway product is- drumroll please....................................

Falsies mascara by Maybelline.  I thought this would be a great giveaway because it's makeup and who doesn't love makeup? I'm what you might call a mascara junkie.  I have used every brand, and different types of mascaras within those brands and I  have a tough time finding one that I like.  This stuff is so GREAT!  It is my fave and it's inexpensive!

I will be giving it away to two of my blog readers.  Here are the rules...

1.  Leave a comment either here on the blog, or on my facebook page of your favorite beauty product.  It could be a lotion, eyecream, footscrub, etc...Whatever your go-to product may be.
2.  The contest will run from now until 8pm MST.  That's 10pm for all you east coasters and 7pm for all you west coasters.  Look for the winner to be announced Saturday evening!

  2. I LOVE Freeman Barefoot Shae Butter Lotion!!!!! My skin is so dry especially my feet which causes problems in the summertime because i love to wear flip flops. With this lotion, my feet stay nice and moist all day and my heels are not chapped!!!! So in the summer I continue to have pretty feet in my pretty flip flops!!!!

  3. I just bought new mascara because of two people using my mascara on, ahem, teeth....that's another story, but I have not come up with one mascara that is my favorite. I change everytime I buy new.

  5. Okay so it took me a while to come up with my "beauty" product. This might seem strange and not really a beauty product per se, but having chapped lips never makes anyone feel beautiful. C.O. Bigelow "My Favorite Lip Balm" is the greatest stuff ever (in my opinion at least). With the shea butter in it, it leaves my lips feeling refreshed. There's my go-to product! Emily Couchman
